SNOOOOOWWWWW DAYYY

Except that I didn't have class today anyway. Of course.

Um, wow. It's been a while. Quick recap of the months since the last post:

-Made it through first 18 credit semester at Mica-land, amazingly with flying colors
-Possibly broke my foot during finals
-New roommate is a total nut who is fascinated with decomposition. This has resulted in her keeping moldy things she had previously buried in our hallway and moldy sweet potatoes in the fridge. She also called morgues asking if they had any left-overs from cremations that she could have. Suffice to say, we are not living with her next year
-Totaled my car
-Destroyed another printer in under five months
-Learned that a fan brush has other uses other than painting happy trees

Spring semester's been running smoothly so far. All my studio classes are giving independent assignments, which has been both terrifying and exciting The stuff I'm doing for Sophomore Painting and Figure and Ground are essentially following the same tracks. If I manage to generate enough pieces that aren't total crap, I think I might apply for some gallery space next year.

Oh, PS: I got a blog to post assorted art stuff, mostly to make it easier for family and others to find me, which is located here : http://sarahrizzo.blogspot.com/

Reslife will not let me move in early. This makes no sense because I know a few people who've already moved into on-campus housing and are not RAs or OLs, plus there are also freshman on my floor so the apartments have to be cleaned already since today was orientation. Nancy says I should just show up tomorrow with all my stuff and ask to be let in. "What are they going to say? No?" Um, yeah. They probably will. So bollocks to that then.

On the upside, I have more time to pack. I started yesterday, however I was only able to get two sweaters in until I decided "I think I shall draw contortionists instead!" And so I did. With any sort of luck I'll have all my crap ready by Sunday so come Monday morning all I have to do is throw everything into the car and head off. It probably won't and I'll be in a mad panic, finally leaving around noon. At the very least I can say that I'm consistent with my departures.

DEAR GOD BODY WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO?!?!?!

This has been the week in which my body has attempted to stage a total revolt. First was the strep throat and cough that hasn't completely gone away. Both my ears got infected. On Wednesday, I discovered a sizable cavity on a tooth. This is of course the week the dentist's office is closed for vacation. Also, part of my gum is sore and bleeds. Now? I came home five minutes ago, thought "Huh, my stomach is awfully itchy" and upon lifting my shirt to scratch see that my torso has erupted in some crazy rash. I have hives from my breasts all the way down to the top of my thighs. GEE I WONDER WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT, MAYBE DEATH?!?!?!?

HAY GUISE GUESS WHAT?!

I finally finished a sketchbook! From cover to cover! This has never happened before!!! To think it only took me roughly seven months :| Admittedly about half of it is notes from EMAC and sculpture plus directions to various places BUT SCREW THAT IT IS FULL. Thank god; as much as I love how gloriously smooth the pages are, I am so sick of holding off from using wet media in it because of the paper freaking out. seriously, you'd think moleskine could figure this one out instead of having to sell seperate watercolor sketchbooks.

Work ended on Friday, and it's great because I can now resume my horrendous summer sleeping schedule. However everyone else is still working mostly full time. So I am going to assume the next three weeks are going to be spent mostly by staring at the wall.

I got my hurr cut today and once more look like a boy. I'm going to have to do some touch-ups to it later because the hairdresser was freaking out the whole time over how short I wanted it. I should not have to calm a hairdresser and tell her repeatedly "It's ok, it's only hair. It will gow back, I promise". Basically it was about forty five minutes of her asking "Is this length ok?" and me wanting to go shorter until I finally said "Take it to the point where you're going to need the electric razor". That succeeded in me having helmet hair. That was fixed, however the end result was a mullet. By the end of it, I had uneven bangs with a wonk-tastic part and I called it quits while I still had hair. It's not too bad. Not glorious. My dad still remarked "I have four sons now?" when I got home. But hey, it's fixable. Well, mentally it's fixable. I've never actually attempted to cut my hair before, so I could potentially have a hindenburg-sized disaster by the end of it.

Week one of work COMPLETE!!! No one ended up dead, and I wasn't hit the bottle as soon as I got home either! Amazingly enough, it we went by the whole week rather smoothly. Todd had warned me that one kid got kicked out of the camp last summer for bullying others at lunch, which didn't really put me at ease about working with middle school kid. The worst we had to deal with was a girl who is definitely high-functioning autistic, however her parents did NOT put that on her medical form :|. Basically I spent a good amount of time hauling her back to her easel because she had the tendency to forget completely what she was doing and wander off. In short, I might just bring a leash with me tomorrow since she's signed up for the remaining three weeks of camp. Other than that, they were great. I'm going to miss those little buggers ):

Since everyone seems to work on the weekend and those are my days off, I have been attempting to get my cooking skills up from almost non-existent to slightly better than pitiful. So far everything I've made has at least been edible, so huzzah! I discovered a container of leftover sticky rice from yesterday's dinner, which means I am going to attempt making onigiri for tomorrows lunch. I remember making them once like four or five years ago, and memory is telling me that shaping them is a bitch and a half without the aid of a mold. But I was 15 at the time, and the onigiri attempt happened not too long of the Cherries Jubilee Incident*, so hopefully with older age and wisdom comes better rice ball-making abilities. Or at least the kitchen will hopefully not look like riceggedeon by the time I'm through.

*The worst or my culinary disasters, otherwise known to my family as "the day that will never be spoken of again"

Man, I start working full time this month, too :\ ARGH ARGH ARGH. I haven't even sketched. Except for a page back in the middle of May. God, the first few weeks back at school are going to be awkward

Oh wow, hi guys. I forgot I'm supposed to post in this thing.

I have since made it out of Year One at MICA alive! To which most of my relatives have replied "You did so much better then we thought you would!!!" Um, thanks?

Can I just say what an absolute miracle it was to get an A in emac? Honestly, I think it's a mistake. I really really shouldn't have that high of a grade. Considering the fact that with most of my assignments, I would attempt to do as little work on the computer as possible, such as drawing everything, scanning it in, and putting it together in photoshop. Basically it was a whole semester of Mina saying "That's great, but that's kind of defeating the purpose of doing the assignment to learn how to use the program." So either it was a miscalculation on her part, or it was a pity A.

Wall-E was cute. Coming home to the Mt. Everest recreated in cat puke on my bedroom floor was less so.

So basically, I suck at keeping track of finances.

Today this has proven to be pretty bad but also really really good. I had bought a bunch of stuff off amazon last month and signed up for the trial of amazon prime because hey, free two day shipping for a month! I just had to cancel it before the month was over lest I be automatically charged for the full membership, which happens to be $80. So I missed the end of the trial date because I'm really bad at keeping track of stuff like this. However, I don't have enough money in my account, so they couldn't charge me for it (and apparently don't have a service charge!) aaaaaaand then I cancelled. Granted this probably isn't going to do me any good in regards to me credit score, but wotev.

La Madre lost her wallet. If she doesn't find it, she won't be able to make it down for the weekend DD:
